Recent work
A paint job is usually judged on the last coat, which is the easy part to photograph. The frames in between are the ones worth looking at: old paint taken off back to bare timber, boards made good, plaster filled and sanded, undercoat on long before any colour goes near a wall. That work is what decides how the finish looks in five years, and it is why each set below runs from before, through the middle of it, to the day we packed up.

Every picture on this page is our own work on a real house, and the “before” frames are what we found on the first morning.

Project 01
The photographs run from faded cream paint and scaffolding, through walls taken back to bare timber, to white boards finished around the red brick chimney.
Project 02
Outside: bare cladding, then undercoat, then charcoal. Inside: a raked ceiling in prepared plaster, panelled walls in white and deep green, and a charcoal fireplace wall.
Project 03
Rooms photographed at bare plasterboard, doors going through the spray gun and onto the drying rack, and the living and open-plan spaces once the walls and ceilings were finished.
